So here I am, sitting in my apartment in a fold up chair, frat-boy style. In my living room there remains: one TV perpetually tuned to The Office, desk drawers (no desk), one lamp, one rolled up area rug, two boxes which are loyally serving as a coffee table, a mountain of textbooks I can't bring myself to throw out, and a pile of pillows which Duncan has turned into his nest. Tom Petty is BLASTING above the TV. I should be packing the rest of my closet into boxes, but this blog is the best procrastination idea I've had to date. This is my first attempt at participating in the blogosphere world. I figured I should find a way to stay in touch and let people know what I'm up to (en masse to relieve some internet headaches) during this exciting time in my life. Duncan, my man, and I are hitting the road for two months. We hope to make it across Canada, starting in Halifax and ending on Vancouver Island and, with any luck, dip into the States down the Coast Highway through Washington, Oregon, and California.
With my last day of work complete, absolute freedom has ensued and it finally hit me that I'm leaving my beloved city. Halifax has been good to me in the last six years. I've grown into the individual I am today largely because of this city: it's vibes, the people I've met, the loves I've found, the insights that come with staring at the ocean...It will always hold a piece of my heart and I will be back.
As much as moving really grinds my gears, I have to admit that unloading nearly all of my possessions (which contained about 45 000 metric tonnes of clothes accumulated over the years, through countless style phases) feels better than just about anything. Helping a kijiji buyer move my couch down the stairs and into her cube van was the catharsis I've been waiting for throughout the travel prep-period. Once the weight of my belongings is completely gone/stowed in the MacVicar's basement, I'll be ready. Ready to hit the road, ready to live out of the 95 Corolla and a tent, ready to meet new loves and feel new vibes. Halifax will still be here when I get back, right?
Stop #1: New Glasgow Jubilee http://www.jubilee.ns.ca/ for the weekend (baby steps).
This is so sweet, I didn't know your English writing was so good. Oh Halifax.... xo
